Our Editorial Guidelines

When it comes to raising kids, it’s more important than ever to find trustworthy advice that reflects your family’s experience. But sifting through information online and figuring out what’s credible can feel overwhelming. That’s why we are fully transparent about our editorial process at Parents. We provide accurate answers to your most pressing parenting questions so that you can get back to what matters most—caring for your children.

Since our brand launched in 1926, Parents has been committed to supporting you every step of the way, from the big life decisions to the memory-making moments. We deliver real-world solutions that uplift, empower, and inspire. By putting empathy at the heart of everything we do, we are able to reach a diverse community of more than 150 million caregivers each year.

While our brand is almost 100 years old, we know firsthand that times change, and parenting continues to evolve. We take pride in our responsibility to report the latest news and pertinent issues for caregivers today. If you read it on Parents, you know you’ll come away with the knowledge you need to be confident in the decisions you make for your family.

Our writers are experienced journalists and real parents

We work with highly-qualified parenting writers and journalists to create quality content that’s science-backed and filled with reassuring advice from leading parenting experts—from pediatricians and child psychologists to OB-GYNs and doulas.

For every topic we cover, we strive to find the best writer—whether that’s someone with relevant expertise or real-life experience. We find that choosing the right writer and perspective for each story is often as important as the information itself. It lends to our credibility and highlights our authenticity.

Our award-winning editorial team lives the parenting beat

Our highly skilled team of expert editors, journalists, writers, and creators works hard to ensure our content is up-to-date, relevant, and inclusive of diverse life experiences.

We stay on top of the news and look at every issue through the parenting lens so that you have the latest information always within reach. Our content has been recognized by our peers with two Folio Eddie Awards and a Publisher Podcast Award

Above all else, we uphold the Dotdash Meredith Content Integrity Promise, which includes policies on accuracy and corrections, independence and impartiality, and originality.

We only publish content made by and for humans

At Parents, we aspire to provide the highest quality content produced by humans, for humans. It is against our guidelines to publish automatically generated content using AI (artificial intelligence) writing tools such as ChatGPT.

Our Expert Review Board keeps us accurate

Our Expert Review Board features more than 20 leaders in their fields—from pediatrics, emergency medicine, and public health to gynecology, mental health, dermatology, nutrition, allergy, and sleep.

Before each article is published, we assign it to one of our experts, who vets it for accuracy and comprehensiveness, ensuring that it meets the latest evidence-based research and standards. They share feedback directly with our editorial team so we can make the necessary improvements. Once the process is complete, the article is stamped with a byline from both the writer and the expert reviewer. The result is content you can absolutely trust.

We amplify diverse voices and family experiences

What it means to be a parent or caregiver today is constantly evolving. We want you to see yourself in our stories. To do this, we amplify diverse storytellers with different kinds of parenting situations and experiences. We work to ensure that at least 40% of our writers and sources are Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and other people of color.

We place a lot of value in creating content that speaks to families of varying backgrounds, structures, and dynamics with inclusive language. We’re also building new communities within the Parents site for Black and Latinx families. Earlier this year we launched Kindred, a digital destination and community that centers the experiences of Black families.

We fact-check everything

We work with a team of experienced fact checkers to vet our content for accuracy. Our fact-checkers use primary sources, leading parenting experts, peer-reviewed journals, academic sources, government, and advocacy organizations to make sure every statistic and statement is confirmed true and up-to-date.

Despite our rigorous fact checking process, errors can happen and we will do our best to correct any mistakes in a transparent manner. If you come across any inconsistencies or incorrect information while reading Parents content, please let us know at contact@parents.com.

We stay true to our brand voice and values

In today’s uncertain world, we believe a parent’s most important role is raising the next generation of good people. To do this, we make sure you feel seen and supported each time you come to us for guidance by anticipating and validating your concerns.

We recognize that as magical as parenthood can be, it is often overwhelming and stressful. Parents promises to be by your side every step of that way—leading with empathy and understanding.

We want to hear your feedback

We love to hear from our readers! If you have a comment, suggestion, or idea to share, please reach out at contact@parents.com. Your feedback is key to making sure our community is inclusive and represents the vast range of experiences and perspectives that go into caring for children in today’s world.
